Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car to The Big Buddha (Tian Tan) @ Hong Kong

in #nature6 years ago (edited)

Hello Everyone!

We have disappeared for quite some time, haven't we? We didn't mean to leave our blog cold but a lot has happened recently and we're trying to get back into our regular routine again.

Rewind back to the start of September, we took a very quick and short trip to Hong Kong. Having been there so many times, there are still many things which we haven't seen or done as it was probably not of interest or we felt it was too touristy or not our age... but somehow it didn't seem too bad the next time we decided to visit the country again. I guess you can say our interests changes as we age? Haha~

One of the new things we've done during this trip was visiting The Big Buddha, Tian Tan, at Ngong Ping on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. The weather forecast presumed that it was to be raining the whole of our trip however, we were extremely lucky to have brought sunny Sydney into Hong Kong. Yes, the weather held up and we experienced a good few days of sunshine! It was definitely humid and hot in Hong Kong.

In this post we will be taking you on a ride on the Ngong Ping 360 cable car.

Getting to Ngong Ping, Lantau Island:

We caught the MTR (HK railway) from Prince Edward to Lai King where we switched trains to Tung Chung. Walking just a couple of metres, we got to the Ngong Ping 360 which is where you can catch the cable car to Ngong Ping Village. There are 3 types of tickets you can purchase for the cable car. They have the Standard, Crystal and Private cable car tickets. The difference? The Crystal cable car has glass floors where you can have a view of whats below you and that's if you don't have a fear of heights whilst the Standard cable car has a metal floor and so you won't be able to see what is down below. Crystal cable cars appear to be more frequent than the Standard cars. Both cable cars however have gorgeous 360 degrees view. The Private cable car ensure that you travel in the cable car without having to share with strangers who you aren't travelling with. Of course, all three cars have a price difference. It costs $315 HKD per adult for the crystal cabin which we took.

Here are some shots of the cable car trip and also the undisturbed views!

Tickets, wrist bands (for the return trip) and brochures received from the counter.

Tung Chung is located near Hong Kong airport. As you catch the cable car, you will be able to see the airport as well.

You can see from the above picture that there is a footpath below. You can actually hike up the mountains to get to Ngong Ping Village and see The Big Buddha, however it was an extremely hot day and there were signs around asking people not to take that risk as they may get a heat stroke.

The skies were clear of clouds and pollution that day and we were able to clearly see the statue of Tian Tan! So lucky!!

Hope you've enjoyed these amazing views seen on the Ngong Ping 360. In our next post, we will be showing you around Ngong Ping Village and The Big Buddha upclose! Stay tuned!
