NeedleworkMonday: One FO and many UFOs / Eins fertig, zu viel in Arbeit

The FO / Fertig

grafik.png

The Cowl is finished. As easy as knitting it was - sewing it together was hell. Each "active" stitch was sewn with one of the cast on stitches, comparable to the Kitchener stitch for sewing stitches together. So it is slow work and the seam is less elastic than the fabric itself, because you have the cast on edge. If I would do it again, then probably with a provisional cast on (e.g. pick up stitches from a crochet chain) and then sew it with the 3-needle-bind off.

grafik.pngYou cut the active thread with a length about 3 times the length you want to sew, go in the first stitch on the left needle from the left side (as if to knit) and then through the first stitch of the same "column" at the beginning of the cowl.
grafik.pngNow you go through the first stitch on left needle from the front and into the second stitch from the back, imitating a stitch.
grafik.pngAnd now simply repeat these two things about 220 times. Yes, it was a joy ;)
grafik.pngThat's how it looks from the backside

You can clearly see the seam on the first picture above - as I said, I would choose another way if I knitted a cowl like this again.

Auf dem Foto ganz oben kann man ziemlich deutlich die Naht erkennen. Wie gesagt: ich würde es so nicht noch einmal machen.

UFOs / In Arbeit

  • The Estuary shawl is still in the increasing part, so far I used nearly 30 g of the yarn.
  • Another colorful spiral scrappy sock with an afterthought heel.
  • My sewing machine arrived and I started a first sewing test - well, more a test of my deeply buried sewing knowledge ;) It's an upcycling project and I'm eager to show you what I'm doing as soon as I'm finished. Here's a sneak preview:

That cowl does look like very hard work! And the sewing is intriguing 😊

The hard work is not in the knitting but in the last row. Clearly not meant for me who wants to have a finished project as soon as I'm done knitting :)

The cowl looks beautiful, the little seam does not detract from it. It looks SO SOFT! I bet it will keep you warm next winter.

Hmmmm a sewing project... upcycling... pants into... a poncho? A skirt? A backpack? :) Had to guess!

Sehr gut!

I love the pattern design that you knitted and the colour choices. The cowl does look very soft. And wow, you had to do the stitches 221 times? That takes a lotttt if patience.

The pattern + color came from the yarn, it was dyed to resemble such knitting.
And the sewing took me four days ;)
