Buhari on Benue attacks! A meeting with Governor Samuel Ortom.

in #new6 years ago

President Buhari has met with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state early this morning to discuss the issue of security that has arisen from the killings in Benue. There was a wanton destruction of property in the villages of Guma and Logo Local governments areas.

The State Council Security Meeting was held in Macurdi where Mr. Ortom said that last week the armed herdsmen killed over 20 people and injured over 30 people . But the most important question to ask is that why were there killing. It is definitely wise to look back on the 1st day of November, a Law on Anti-Open Grazing was passed. Couldn't this be the genesis of all this?

The Federal State Police on Wednesday said that 17 people and been killed and the suspects were arrested and detained. These 8 suspects are herdsmen. My question is if true: what's wrong with the herdsmen? Don't they have more work to do than killing humans?

Buhari commiserated with families of the deceased and the injured were wished safe and speedy healing.
Theses attacks show the protest on the law that bans open grazing.

My Opinion on the Law.

The fact is that many times laws are made for the good of the society, however there're some laws that are made with bad faith. In my view, I think the law on open Grazing was enacted with bad faith. Considering the community of the people and the standard of living in the community. The law is there to protect the society of which the society is defined by the people. Once the people are not interested in the Law, any government should fear for it's implementation.

In Conclusion

I think it is much more important for someone to analyse the acts of these herdsmen. I am not saying that their acts are justifiable, not any day. There are more better ways of showing discontent. The other factors can also not be undermined. It's news and not yet put to lime light. There's a principle of Criminal law, a person is presumed innocent until proved guilty. This is enshrined in Common Law principles. Nigeria being a Common Wealth Country complies with the principle.

I am against any form of injury to person. No one has power over other persons. Stop the Killings in Benue.
