Nintendo Labo Test - RC Car 🏎

in #new6 years ago (edited)

You can throw pretty much everything from Nintendo at me, and i will buy it. This time it´s not hardware or software, it´s carton:

There is no printed manual, it´s all on the game cartridge. I had to do an update, but it just took a few seconds. That famous day one patch :)

The first thing you need to build is a holder for one of the joycon controllers (sorry for the german on the console):

Not sure what´s it good for right now, it just holds the right joycon. But it is the first tutorial and you have to finish it.

Well, let´s build the first thing in the box, the RC car!

First, you have to select what you want to build on the Switch. The RC car only takes 10, not sure why everything else is more than 90. I will keep you posted :)

Getting the pieces out of is easy, but i did not expect the carton to be that thing. You do have to be careful not to damage it. Kids below 3 or 4 years definitely should not do this.

Well, it´s just two pieces and a picture of the finished solution would do it if you are smart, but the video manual on the Switch is VERY detailed and shows every single flap you have to bend:

And this is the result:

Now you can control the "car" with the Switch, and you can change the speed/frequency of the vibration motors to balance the vehicle movements.
Take a close look at the screen, there is a camera view with my fingers on it. One of the controllers comes with an infrared sensor, and it shows a video feed from the sensor right on your Switch. Cool!

It´s obviously not for hardcore games. It´s for kids, and for Nintendo fans. The manuals seem to be a bit boring and lengthy and so far i did not find a way to make the videos faster...we will see how that goes for the next ones :)

Thanks for sharing! I think this kind of thing is not only great, but so necessary for today's kids. With everything so quickly available to them (Internet, smart phones, Alexa, etc), kids are being trained to only be consumers, not makers. This makes the mind dull and flabby, just as not exercising makes the body dull and flabby.

We all need things to constantly challenge us, physically, mentally, spiritually. This product doesn't do ALL of that...but it does some!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Love this system.
