ADB has donated Tk 203 crores for the development of solar irrigation

Solar Pumps will run throughout the country on solar power. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is providing assistance of Tk 203 crore for its expansion. This money will be donated by the company. An agreement has been signed on Thursday.

In this agreement, the Economic Relations Division Secretary (ERD) Kazi Shafiqul Azam and Country Director of the ADB, Mr. Manmohan Prakash, signed the agreement in the NEC conference room in city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

It was informed in the ceremony that this money will increase production of about 19.3 megawatt of solar power. It will set up 2,000 solar-powered irrigation pumps in rural areas. Under the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BRDE), 10 Rural Electrification Association will be implemented.

It is also reported that at least 1 crore 16 lakh farmers are using diesel to pump their pumps for irrigation. 1 million tons of diesel is used annually. Due to the installation of these solar pumps, the use of diesel will decrease. Spend less As a result, low-income farmers can get irrigation at a more affordable price. Changing the diesel pumping system is expected to reduce the 17.261 tonne carbon dioxide emissions as a result of replacing solar pumps.
