Roadside bomb kills rebel commander in Daraa, injures another
DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:20 P.M.) - A rebel commander was killed, his escort severally injured when an IED exploded in their vehicle in the eastern countryside of Daraa as a surge of assassinations plagues the southern province.
The attack, which took place in a residential area in al-Hirak town, killed Saddam al-Masri, a commander of Ansar al-Umari rebel group (headed by his brother Muammar). His companion had his legs amputated in the explosion.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Several incidents of assassinations have been reported recently in the rebel-held areas of Daraa as the government forces amass more reinforcements for the final battle.
