BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:10 A.M.) - Newly-elected Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sought to improve ties with Russia during his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi on Monday. The two leaders met during a summit between the heads of state of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

“There are things that need to be discussed but there are also things that go without saying, namely the allied, strategic relations between Armenia and Russia,” Pashinyan said.

“We are highly motivated to give new impetus to our relations politically, [and] in the spheres of trade and economics, and we hope to develop our relations in the field of security and other areas,” he added.

After congratulating the prime minister on his election, Putin expressed hope that the two countries would continue cooperation on all levels from “international organisations from the UN, where Armenia and Russia have always supported each other, to regional organisations in the spheres of security and economic development.”
