Syrian Army advances 3.5km deep into ISIS-held territory
BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:15 A.M.) - The Syrian Arab Army has been steadily advancing inside the Al-Safa region of the Sweida Governorate this month, liberating several areas from the so-called Islamic State (ISIS).
Led by their 3rd and 10th divisions, the Syrian Arab Army has taken advantage of the Islamic State's lack of provisions to liberate a large chunk of territory along the southwestern and northeastern axes of the Al-Safa region.
According to a Syrian Army officer interviewed by the Sputnik News Agency, his troops have managed to advance approximately 3.5 kilometers deep into ISIS-occupied territory since the start of this offensive in July.
The officer told Sputnik that the operation to capture the rocky cliffs in the Al-Safa region has been one of the most difficult tasks thus far during this offensive.
However, he said once the Syrian Army breaks through the Islamic State's defenses at these rocky cliffs, they will ultimately force the terrorist group to surrender because they have limited provisions and no access to water.
