Twitter are taking steps to try and combat fake accounts

Recently Twitter has been making extended efforts to try and combat fake accounts in order to showcase the actual amount of followers users have on the platform.

Hundreds to thousands of followers have been disappearing from users accounts over the past few weeks, this is due to the fact that Twitter​ is​ taking steps in order to try and combat fake and botted accounts. Those who were losing followers included many media celebrities, business people and also numerous bloggers.

These steps by Twitter come after they have been scrutinized for numerous years now for their lack of effort in dealing with an increasing problem which has taken over the social media, bots. Many individuals create and both use a fake account which has botted followers in order to both make their profile look more desirable and also to get others to follow their profile which may in future allow them to push products and have influences on real-life​ people without many of the genuine followers knowing of the profiles true nature.

As seen in the image above many of the fake accounts will have a very basic name with little activities on their accounts and few images, so please watch out for followers like this on accounts that may influence you as Twitter warns these can be potentially very dangerous, hence the reason they are taking more steps in order to combat the problem.

Only time will tell how these steps that Twitter are taking will affect​ the social media in both positive and negative ways.
