Car crashes, climbs up pole in Hatboro, PA - some thought it was a hoax, I had to see it for myself, it looks like it really happened

From this view, I thought this was a set up or hoax to draw attention to the used car lot right there at this corner. This is a busy intersection and the road has outgrown its safe speed and space. It is at Jacksonville & County Line Road in zip code 19040 for those who want to look at it on Google Maps. It is technically a 4 (or 5 if you count the center lane for turns) lane road. The outer lanes have people literally riding about a foot from the curb though. I have reached speeds in excess of the 45 MPH speed limit on this road, just to keep up. This is in a suburban town about 10 minutes from my home in the Philadelphia, PA suburban area. I know this intersection well, and have driven through it thousands of times. I can't even imagine how this could happen without the car being significantly damaged since it looks like the front end never really hit the pole. For this reason, tons of people thought it was a hoax set up by the car dealer.

Different view taken from further away, photo credit: Andrea Wohlers-Beebie, still not much help in determining if this is real or not when seen online....people were thinking it was a Photoshop job even.

But then we also see the local police involved and that would be a lot harder to deny this happened once a police report gets published.

People also saw this cable under the center of the car undercarriage and thought it was something that someone rigged the car up, to secure it and draw attention. Although if, you look at this picture and the first picture, you can actually see this was a freak accident. The cable is not there to secure the car. This is a typical tension cable put on a lot of utility poles around here, and the rest of the USA to help keep it upright. Sometimes, if you are walking around these, you can find yourself tripping over one or not even noticing it, and having to duck under it. In the first photo, you can see the car's back end is on the curb and the left rear tire is hanging over into the road. This is not a road you'd want to set up that sort of stunt on. That little bit of space is pretty important to people driving on it. I don't think the used car dealer would set this up this way. Someone would end up hitting it by clipping it.

The last picture is also rather revealing. You can actually see the right front wheel all deformed from when it jumped the curb. Somehow, this person jumped the curb at the exact right time to crash and ride up this tension cable and secure themselves safely there. There is almost no front end damage to the vehicle. I would have loved to stick around to see how they took this vehicle down, but I had to get to work. This all happened around 8am yesterday and was still like this as late as 10am. Its not there today. I've been looking for the police blotter and report to find out the story or any charges related to it. It is too soon for that stuff to be posted. The police usually take 3+ days to publish that stuff around here, but they were definitely on site. If I find it, I will reply to this post and add it for confirmation. Pretty strange sight to see indeed.

I have no idea if there were any injuries. All I've heard through the grapevine is that the car was driven by a stripper and no one got hurt. I can't say if this is definitely funny or not, based on not knowing the personal circumstances related to it. I can say that it is a funny car crash image if nothing else though.

If you look at the road from this view, you can now see what could've happened as you drive to this very spot. There is a driveway style curb cut that perhaps someone wandered into and then drove right up this existing tension wire shown above. Amazing, isn't it? I really do hope no one got hurt. What are the odds of pulling this stunt of an accident off and landing safely, like they did? No hoax!
