Santal Village - Sundorpur, Rajshahi.

in #news6 years ago (edited)

Rajshahi is the noth-western district of Bangladesh. Its also called the city of Mango and ancient city. Once I had a chance to visit this city and a village named Sundorpur Jukti Para.

Santal Tribes of Rajshahi, they have been playing their daily life by their own in private lands. There is nothing than a heart full of expectations in them. They do not dream about money, car and houses, they only do is about their children’s education that their children will be a perfect man in future. Most of them have completed their school life and started to go to college, on the other side some students have stopped their education due to financial crisis.

None of the husbands and wives of the Santal family are personally dependent on anyone. It is not social or economic. Most of their families are middle class and have low-income. Both the husband and wife work in the farm from morning. Even the farm is not owned by them. They earn Tk 120-150 per day working from morning to evening. Men in from middle class families work in different small institutions and the women take care of their children and beside they work in farm too.. In addition to these, they also take care of their domestic animals.

From the childhood, the Santal children get harder all alone. Some of them are lucky to work in different offices and some are forced to choose the farm due their family bad condition. In some families, both husband and wife work in the farm and in few families only the husband. Similarly, some of the women carrying her son/daughter takes food for her husband working in farm.

All people are Santal in this village named Sundhorpur. Men and women in this society, most of them, men and women, work in farm/field. They work all day long and do not get their fair returns at the end of the day. Men get taka 150 and women get taka 120 for the whole day as wage.

In the end, once I had a chance to talk with one of the villagers named Churka. Churka, the head of his family, is sitting with a room in the courtyard of the house and his wife has returned from work. There are 8 members in this family, Churka, his wife, 3 sons and 3 daughters. Both husband and wife studied up to class 10. His younger son lives with his parents and the remaining 2 sons and 3 girls are educated and now they work in the city Rajshahi.
