The Gentrification of Crypto

in #news6 years ago

As seen in the past the major players in the industry have made a recent play to "weed out the bad seeds."
As you may know Google, Facebook, and Twitter have recently banned ads for anything pertaining to the cryptocurency industry. Microsoft's Bill Gates has recently been quoted saying that he would "short" Bitcoin if there were any easy way to do it. Though, as of now, Bing still allows crypto related ads, Microsoft owned LinkedIn has also put restrictions on crypto related content.
The recent shift seems to be geared toward preventing sketchy ICO campaigns from taking advantage of innocent investors, but I ask you, has investing ever been a clean game? What does all of this recent show of muscle really mean for the community?
As the major hitters of the internet universe get more and more involved in the future of currency, is the foundation of a great idea crumbling under the weight of an everpresent mass of wealth? Will the early bird get the worm or will the whale consume the whole lot?
With crypto regulation increasing weekly and momentum of wealth increasing exponentially it only makes sense that the essence of a decentralized free market be taken over by the players with the heavy wallets. Que the pecking order - get in where you fit in. Out with the slum and in with suburbia. No room for little guys or good ol' affiliate marketing any more.
It all sounds pretty glum to a guy like me with a HODL and a dream but all is not lost. The crypto community is very well adept at rolling with the punches and while the "quickening" continues, new innovation in the underground backwaters may just keep this neighborhood afloat.
