Small Pixels Trouble? Introducing: Sony: 48 Mega Pixel Sensors

Amazing revolution in phone cameras are now all set to get attention of photography lovers.

Sony introduced a 48 Megapixel Sensor for cellphone cameras.

Why?
To match many pixels into quarters, Sony tried to compress their size to 8 Microns, which resulted in performance degradation. It performed very poor under light collection, saturation sensitivity and volume.

Improvement & Digital Zoom
The new sensor is designed with new upgrades which will improve light collection & photoelectric conversion efficiency. The normal phenomenon is if we use smaller pixel size then it makes the sensor suitable for mobile phones. If we consider large number of pixels then they used to design keeping in mind for high definition imaging for smartphones that only have digital zooms. We can see digital zoom effect which happens by cropping an image when we capture it, so is the reason more megapixels would be helpful for this to function appropriately.

How better the product is?
Sensor which is going to be use, is a combination of a 48-megapixel resolution mode which results in high sensitivity for low light conditions. The 48-megapixel mode is combined with a lens which will offer quality pictures. Also, smaller area of each pixel may limit the amount of light those pixels can capture, inbuilt with the quad-pixel (low-light mode). Quad Bayer, when we feel low light conditions then this technology helps the signals from adjacent pixels to be combine together which results into multiple sensitivity. Sony is combining four smaller pixels into one to improve resolution in low light. These newly invented sensors can produce dynamic range of outputs which will be almost 4-5 times of regular products. We can capture scenes with dark & bright areas with very less highlights. So the final output would be both full and low light modes would be perfect.

There was a huge trouble which we all were facing due to megapixel count for both phone & camera but now 48-megapixel sensor is getting a lot of attention due to its design & performance.

By introducing 48-megapixel sensors, Sony keeps their record as a worldwide leader for megapixel category.

Very informative post. How to adjust with phone?

It will be inbuilt with phone. Sony has already done with production of new smartphones with 48 MP Sensors.
