Holy Fire! Everything Is Up In Smoke Including Crypto!

in #news6 years ago

Literally, the forests are burning and crypto is going up in flames.

The Holy Fire

The Holy Fire, as it's being called after the canyon it started in, Holy Jim Canyon has been burning for 3 days here in So. Cal. The mountains are known as the Saddleback Mountains. They are a major landmark dead center of a metropolis consisting of Orange & Riverside counties. I grew up under these mountains and know them well.

The mountains here haven't burned like this since the Santiago fire back in 2007. I was working on a home in the Silverado Canyon when that fire came through. The house I was working on was spared, but his neighbors just across the street weren't so lucky. This fire so far has only claimed a few structures and a cabin, but it's still raging.

Today I went out at lunch to get some photos and see the progress of the fire. It was a sight to see as two 747 sized planes dropped their payloads of red fire retardant on the mountains. They were so damn close to the mountains I honestly expected to see one crash into one of the other peaks. You have to hand it to those guys, they are real heroes for the work they do.

Here is a short video of one of the tankers dropping its payload at 40 sec mark.

On top of the two large jets, there were at least 4 other smaller planes and 2 helicopters. Since these mountains are very dry and with major housing developments at their bases it seems they are taking no chances of letting this fire gain any more ground.

On a positive note, it seems the fire is losing it's steam and they arrested the guy who started the fire. He e-mailed a fire captain telling him he would set the canyon ablaze. The arsonist now faces life in prison.

Crypto Blaze

The pain is not over it seems, despite all the recent positive news for BTC, Bakkt, Lightning Network, 50 exohash, etc. forces keep driving bitcoin down. Yesterday's dump was caused by an SEC decision to delay another ETF. Not a rejection, just a delay. It looks like we could be in for another 2 months of pain too as there are more ETF decisions coming as noted by Coindesk today. There could be a few more of these dumps as those ETF requests will most likely also be either delayed or rejected. They won't even matter after Bakkt launches though so there is light ahead.

If you thought this latest dump was bad for bitcoin, shitcoins said, "Hold our beer." Looking at the monthly charts for just about any shitcoin would even give Medusa a run for her money. Down 30% looks like the starting point for most shitcoins, including, unfortunately, STEEM. At least STEEM pays us dividends through our posts though, can't say the same for 90% of the other shitcoins.

Steem & Bitcoin are the only coins I care to actually HODL. I sold a lot of my alts starting back in April as I became more of a maximalist. I still hold a bunch of small bags which at this point wouldn't do me any good to sell so there they sit. I'm still comfortable with this bear market though and am picking up more BTC with each dump because I know what is coming with Bakkt and the halvening, while keeping in mind these ETF dumps are buying opportunities.

As for shitcoins, as Koven says, "With both eyes open, watch it burn...."

Yeow, so many fires. We left when it was burning
a few years ago in the northern parts. Our friends
are up by the Trinity fire and others over by the
Mendocino complex.

This is the link I been watching, the map on the
side shows the fires parameters when zoomed in.

Good to see some photos and videos on this as
there is a lack of those, just the spoon fed stuff.

Stay safe my friend! Sending some moisture
your way! 💧

I heard you guys way up there are having problems too.

The fires up North are monsters. I just hope they don't reach the Mariposa Grove or the Redwoods. Those are world treasures and must be preserved.

I am going to have to take a trip up to Yosemite soon to see the damage these fires have caused. Pretty sad to think about it.

We're fine where I am, suburbia. You guys stay safe up there too!

We been getting a ton of rain on the Kenai peninsula
what parts of Alaska am I not hearing about? No matter
what state you live in it seems always get better news
about other states than the one your in!

I wanted to say earlier that the cloud in your first
photo looks like a darth vader head eh
Pronounced brow ridges.

Yosemite reopened on Tuesday

Your article is very good, my game is very fun. https://goo.gl/Dd9394

ETFの延期ニュースから全体的に下がっているような。

そうです。

Nice video. those fire bomber pilots are all adrenalin junkies. When I was working at the Palomar observatory, one day, I was 100 feet in the air on a water tower, and a Cal fire spotter plane flew by below me.

Damn, that must have been a sight to see. I've had fighters do fly-bys over me when digging on a mountain out in the desert, but tankers are a whole different beast.

Glad to see they have the big 747 flying again. That thing is amazing. Forest service grounded it for a while last year from what I understand... (probably due to expense)

There were 2 of them. They looked brand new too, nice, new paint.
