A total of 80 tons of drug aid distributed to victims of the Aceh tsunami in 2005 are mentioned to have expired. Drug assistance from international countries was eventually destroyed at great expense.

This was revealed in the trial of alleged corruption cases involving former Indonesian Minister of Health, Siti Fadilah Supari, at the State Court for Corruption Crime, Jakarta, Friday, May 19, 2017.

Siti Fadilah forgot which country channeled the expired drug for the Aceh tsunami victims. However, he claims the findings have been reported to the World Health Organization or WHO.

"The cost of burning expired drugs is not small, I forgot the funds from which we have reported to WHO," Siti said.

As is known, Aceh, located at the western tip of Sumatra island, was destroyed by an earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale. The earthquake, which was then followed by a megathrust tsunami, then destroyed several areas in Aceh. The disaster got the world's spotlight with the death toll around 168 thousand more.
