In this week’s moral outrage, Scarlett Johansson gets cast in a role as Dante “Tex” Gill, a real-life figure who used a string of massage parlors as fronts for prostitution in Pittsburgh during the ’70s and ’80s; Gill was born Jean Marie Gill, but identified as a man. And as allows the moral police and outrage crowd suffer from short-term memory loss. Where was the moral outrage when Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman portrayed trans characters? Tambor won Emmys and Golden Globes for his role as a trans woman on Amazon’s Transparent; Leto won an Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyers Club; Huffman earned a Golden Globe win an Oscar nomination for her turn as Bree in Transamerica.

Remember The Danish Girl? That had Eddie Redmayne playing someone with gender dysphoria? He doesn’t have it in real life, but he played the character well. Where was your moral outrage then? What’s next? Humans playing aliens? Non-billionaires playing billionaires? Unqualified people playing teachers? What is THIS WORLD COMING TOO! I find it odd though that there has never been this type of fevered hate when a cis man plays a trans woman, a few people moaning here and there. But not such an overblown reaction. And the irony behind all this moral outrage? Using these peoples logic for casting actors in movies if there is a plumber in a movie, should they only cast an actual plumber to play the role?

Same with lawyers and doctors and a car salesman? TLDR: What these people are basically saying is only a trans actor can play a trans character which is not okay in my books. Because that starts going down the path that it is only okay for straight people to play straight characters, etc. Acting is literally pretending to be someone else so I really don’t see why the blame is put on the actors. She won the roll over a trans man and that is perfectly acceptable. Having said that name me one trans man in Hollywood that has the same amount of fame as Scarlett Johansson to get people to go watch the movie. These people are starting to sound like the supposed “toxic fandom” they use as a boogieman each time a movie fails or something bad happens to an actor.

“Her gender, gender identity and the work she does is none of your business.” Why does that line sound so familiar all of a sudden? Oh, right these people are just being fucken hypocrites. I don’t like them casting this person because XYZ, repeat after me: It. Is. Not. Your. Movie. Don’t like it? Don’t go see it. Problem solved on multiple levels. And anyone who thinks that Hollywood studios would risk millions on casting some unknown backwater actors like say Trace Lysette and Jamie Clayton who had attacked Scarlett Johansson for being cast in the role don’t know much about Hollywood. Do these people who complain and scream on social media expect Hollywood to shell out hundreds of millions of dollars for a movie with actors that no one has ever heard of?

Scarlett Johansson is one of the biggest female stars of the moment, and adding her name to a movie guarantees a certain draw. Bigger names mean bigger audiences, which means bigger box office figures simple as that. The few trans actors you do find out there simply do not have the on-screen presence to fill movie theatres and bring in the money for Hollywood studios, that is a fact. No anti-trans sentiment by Hollywood or some sinister subplot by Hollywood, just a logical choice based off making money. The people should quit sensationalizing this shit. People have to get more and more hysterical about this stuff, how else will they stand out above the rest of the woke crowd to be acknowledged as the wokest…
