WHY So Many Nintendo Switch Ports?

in #nintendo6 years ago

STEEMIT! Are there too many ports coming to the Nintendo Switch? During the Nintendo Direct, we saw a ton of games coming to platform, but most of them were ports. Why are there so many ports? And is this a bad sign? Let's talk about it!

There absolutely are different types of ports and different quality. Whether it's done by Nintendo or a third party is not necessarily the most important thing though. I think it does suggest something as far as quality though. If it's Nintendo doing it, and it's a popular game, then you might have a quality port. If it's a 3rd party...ehh...

I think ports are a good thing for system owners if the company actually takes the time to do a good port. Sometimes they don't, unfortunately. People don't want to own every system, and they shouldn't have to. Some people have even been known to have the same game on multiple systems, just for the ease of playing a game they really like without having to setup a different system.

I don't mind ports. In fact, my jaw dropped several times during the Nintendo Direct. Back in the Wii U days you wouldn't have imagined getting a South Park RPG, Crash Bandicoot trilogy or Dark Souls. Of course, day and date releases with the other platforms would be nice, but just like you mentioned in your video, the developers need some more time. I think that most third parties were caught off guard by the Switch's success.
