Missed the rain by a day - fire on Caister dunes

We had a pretty serious fire on Caister dunes on Wednesday after the recent dry spell left the ground bone dry. The smoke could be seen from miles away and why became evident when I saw the chared ground when walking the dog yesterday morning.

It all got a bit too close for comfort for some who own holiday homes nearby.

I think it took 8 fire crews to get the blaze put out and the lifeboats crew were needed to help recover some fire appliances which got stuck in the dunes. They used one of the tractors used for deploying the lifeboats.

All a bit Sod’s law as it happened the eve before the rain arrived.
