Hi, Steemit friends, hope you all had a nice week!

On Friday, I attended the Nordic Reform Conference in Oslo at day 2.

The Association for Safer Drug Policies has invited some of the world’s leading voices in drug policy reform to share their harm prevention strategies with the Nordic drug policy community. Join us in Oslo on November 23-24 to learn what can be done to minimise the harms caused by both drug use and current drug policies.

The main attraction was David Nutt: A British psychiatrist and neuropsychopharmacologist specialising in research of drugs involved in addiction and a rock star in the field of drug research.

He started his speech by pointing on the main problem with criminalization, namely that the black market creates demand for more dangerous compounds when the original compounds are made illegal.

Cannabis ✒ synthetics (spice)
Opium ✒ heroin
Cocaine ✒ crack
Safrol (MDMA) ✒ PMA
LSD/psilocybin ✒ nBOMs
etc.

Thus, we see a very disturbing pattern:

Again, we see that the combination of bad research, a sensation-seeking press and thus misinformed politicians is a deadly one.

When the Sun (the shittiest media out there) can actually influence drug policies…

Nitrous oxide could be a much safer alternative to alcohol:

I just imaging the thrill of going to a Nitro Bar to get a good laugh after work (cheap and innocent too)...

But Here Comes the Sun (again)...

He also recommended buying his book for Xmas.

Despite this seemingly negative trend, there is a lot of new research on the way that will definitely debunk most of the previous crap papers, politicians seem to be better informed (Venstre's Ola Elvestuen had an excellent speech) and all the new think tanks and interest organisations (such as EmmaSofia), makes it inevitable that the legislation on drugs will be totally different in not far too long.
Portugal has already legalised everything some 16 years ago, that was a success story and now significantly less people die from overdose.

I just hope that the bureaucracy and the ineffectiveness of modern democracy will not slow the process down too much.

The most emotional speech came from Anne-Marie Cockburn the mother of her deceased daughter Martha Fernback. She was just an ordinarily girl that just happen to take the wrong amount of MDMA.

If we can prevent just one more such tragic death from failed drug policies, then we must act now. No more lost lives.

Thank you for your time and attention. Steem on!

I really like how my country dealed with this problem i think Portugal was very successful with drugs.

Good to hear! Let's try the Portuguese way in Norway.

That event must be organised all over the world to spread the awareness about drugs.

Yes, agreed:)

Hey Bossman! I really appreciate you taking photos of it, makes me feel like I was there in a way.

I grew up surrounded by this kind of s&%t, saw lots of folks go from normal into junkie in a matter of months. Not saying you should use any drugs... But weed, cmon who really thinks weed is a drug?

Dunno how spice works cuz I never saw it but if its not "natural" f%&k it!

I tried LSD 10 years ago, had a blast... But at first I did not know I took it :P Bla bla I talk too much:=)

Hope the rates go down, too many young lives go to waste...

Yes, agreed:) Drugs can be very dangerous, but to criminalize is probably making it even more dangerous.
Of course, some 'drugs' like LSD etc. should be pretty safe taken under the right circumstances. Thus, many in Silicon Valley use microdosing of LSD to enhance their creativity.

this was great to see thanks for sharing about this event

@janusface - Sir if you are not decided to share your experience about this conference we will never know about it.... Those topics that discuss in the conference are really useful.... Yes, I cannot wait to go to my local NitroBar, get a laugh and score some chicks:)

@janusface,
"For anybody who suspects that we need to reform the drug laws, there is an easier argument to make, and a harder argument to make. The easier argument is to say that we all agree drugs are bad—it’s just that drug prohibition is even worse."

That would be a great experience! Actually topics that discussed in the conference seems really useful for whole nations! When we talk about drugs, what we remind 1st is crimes, but that's not true! Drugs cure our healthy issues and misuse of drugs made crimes! That's what I could mainly understand after reading your article!

"the black market creates demand for more dangerous compounds when the original compounds are made illegal." - David Nutt

This is the first time I understood it! And I think whole world should understand the value of drugs in a legal way!

"Nitrous oxide could be a much safer alternative to alcohol:"

And here I am really curious by this! Yeah it seems a great alternative of course! A very interesting topic he brought to us in this conference!

After all I like what you said in the conclusion as well.

"If we can prevent just one more such tragic death from failed drug policies, then we must act now. No more lost lives."

Yeah we must act now and all stupid policy makers and stupid politicians must listen David's speech and the whole world must formalized a legitimate way to prevent such bad stories of dangerous compounds and not original compounds!

Thank you very much for sharing such great experience with us! Really appreciate your effort and this is a very interesting topic to have a great discussion!

Cheers~

nice article about the experience you got at that conference. excellent thought to share it with steemit community. nice post with lots of details @janusface

@resteemia

@janusface, Thank you for providing details about Nordic Reform Conference. You showing to us drugs contents what about discussed. Currently most dangerous weapon is drugs. Its increasing anytime. Not drop down level. I think politicians and humans need to take any responsibilities for drugs promoting. As my country, politicians would be main drug dealer and they distribute any locations via drug agents. In this fact how will we stop or control drug distribution. My opinion is in this problems fact need to be together all around the world and then organizing by them. Finally discuss long & take immediate action for stop worst drug policies. Probably we can handover best policies main of the state presidents. Absolutely valuable post. Resteemed.

This is a time for prevent humans life form failed drug policies. We must need to organism and work together. Must fight against failed drug policies.
Hurry up stand up all...
