The Hamsa Hamsa Project - Capture Edition

The Hamsa Hamsa Project is a on going graphic illustration project celebrating my love to the classic Hamsa Symbol.

The hamsa (Arabic: خمسة‎ khamsah; Hebrew: חַמְסָה, also romanized khamsa; Berber languages: ⵜⴰⴼⵓⵙⵜ tafust) is a palm-shaped amulet popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa and commonly used in jewelry and wall hangings. Depicting the open right hand, an image recognized and used as a sign of protection in many times throughout history, the hamsa is believed by some, predominantly Muslims and Jews, to provide defense against the evil eye. It has been theorized that its origins lie in Ancient Egypt or Carthage (modern-day Tunisia) and may have been associated with the Goddess Tanit.

I always loved this symbol, i seen it everywhere as i was growing up in israel and traveling to egypt as i was growing up, i didn't know the full meaning of it until i was late into my teens and took time to learn some history, till this day i love this symbol and think it has a wonderful story and a powerful meaning, every house i lived in in the past 20 years i placed this symbol on my entrance door, so far so good :)

as a designer and illustrator i decided to play with the symbol and add my own touch to it, first drawing it with ink on paper then scanning it and coloring it digitally, i will upload more versions of this one and slowly more of my other different tries.
