Here's the finished piece.

Here's the initial line work:

Here's the base colors (before I got all into the heavy texturing / glows)

I'm new to Steemit, and have wanted to join a contest for a few days.... I Could not be more excited that the first one I find (after finding #ntopaz) is Science Fiction. I grew up on the stuff! I don't just mean that I've watched basically every sci-fi movie and show that has come out since I was born (which I have)... but that when normal kids got fairytales and other bedtime stories read to them, my dad read us sci-fi novels from his massive sci-fi library.

This one is a digital piece. Here is a small timelapse for you.

The process is kind of simple.... First come up with an idea. Then sketch it out. Using layers, mostly color within the lines below the sketch to establish the base tones. Then go in and add details to solidify the forms. Add texture. Blur background. Add glows. Balance colors.

Sort:

I see that you have your brain full of scifi, your dad did something great because now you make drawings of that theme which is very broad and wonderful (someday I want to get to do that kind of art.)

I'm excited that you've done your second publication in ntopaz for the contest. Yesterday's drawing I liked a great style, but this scene is incredible! the step by step great and the end result is great, all those lines and lights in the whole drawing, he will go soon. I hope to see your other tickets!

I see that the images were placed on top of each other, it is because of the ntopaz carrucel. You can make a kind of copy of your publication as it would be in steemit and edit it that way when you do step by step below the text.

Hey @yanes94 - Sci-Fi / Fantasy / Bad Jokes / Marketing / Repetition --- that about covers it... Oh yeah, did I mention repetition? (Actually - did I mention bad jokes ? :p ) - I've edited the post, per your suggestion... Now the images are not touching one another, and are in the correct sequence.

I suspect someday there will be Sci-Fi as the majority of my art.... I've had ideas to create my own worlds (a graphic novel, or a book of art that shows other worlds / creatures). When I was a kid, I'd spend SO much time in front of my dad's bookshelf... I didn't know how to read English at the time, but I certainly would spend a lot of time staring at those books' covers.

If that is art that you want to do, I can certainly help. Been meaning to write some tutorials on here (you can't even spell Tutorial without Ori) - though... been limited on time lately.

Glad you like this one- Check back in a few minutes, I'm about to post my 2nd contest pic / progress.

@yanes94 - btw.. I Forgot to ask, how do I collect my prize for winning 2nd place? It's a great honor - the feeling of pride I got instantly... I just remembered that there's topaz coins as well.

Reminds me of a scene from chronicles of Riddick. Cool stuff you got here :D

Thanks! Enjoyed making this... AND... had an XXX (The extreme secret agent, not porn) marathon while painting this.... So... might be a subconscious influence there.

Thanks @Helpiecake team! I love that you keep varying which flavor cake I get. I'd ask how many cakes you have in total... but I'd rather discover that by creating great content, and getting them all :)

@georgeboya - Dang, you're too quick! I woke up to this delicious cake for breakfast-- and didn't even get to tag you with a "Look! Already entering #ntopaz contests!" you've figured it out on your own. The contest was (is) Sci-Fi.. which is more delicious to me than cake!

You are very welcome, enjoy the cake:) Amazing artwork, very fitting for the contest. Keep in mind that you have 2 more entries, so if you have more cyber art feel free to submit:)

Like the cake, this painting was made fresh :) -- I have another image that I created that I think would work for this.... Was already thinking of entering. And the 3rd... My brain is working on it... It'll be fresh-squeezed as well, and hopefully my best work yet. Sci-fi art is actually what was my aspiration as a kid, and continues to be.

@improv - I was tempted to title it "The MECHanic - but... didn't think everyone would get the pun... hence the longer less punny title.

This is great! I also was raised on sci-fi

Cool mechanic piece! Really seems like he's working hard to fix the gears of a giant robot :D Very lovely work, Ori !

Good luck with contest :)

Thanks @Veryspider ! I wish I had more time to spend on the piece... I might redo this piece at some point. Uploading the 2nd piece for the contest shortly :) - It's got to do with a robot.

You curate a bunch of stuff- what's the coolest contest you've seen so far?

There was one themed Cyberpunk that neoxian ran a while ago, that was cool.

@kommieneszuspadt also runs periodical art contests with like 25 Steems first prize, always, ALWAYS a cool one to participate in :) I guess if I have to pick the coolest one, that'd be it :)
