Malaysia 2007 50th Merdeka Commemorative Coin

On 30 July 2007, Bank Negara Malaysia in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage has launched three commemorative coins in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Independence Day at the National Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur. The launch of this Commemorative Coin was officiated by the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Dato 'Seri Dr. Rais Yatim. All coins issued are legal tender for use in Malaysia.

This front-end design of the coin features a picture of the Sultan Abdul Samad building with a backdrop of the parliament building, the Kuala Lumpur Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers. The combined design of these four buildings reflects the continuity and progress of the country. Official symbols of the festival are located on the upper part of the coin, while the word "SAMBUTAN HARI KEMERDEKAAN" appears on the side of the coin.

The backside design also shows the country's coat of arm . The numbers "1957" and "2007" respectively appear on the left and right of the coin to mark the 50 years of national independence. The word "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA" appears on the upper side of the coin, while the face value is on the lower side of the coin.

These coins are the result of Mr. Ismail Ibrahim's design, Master Designer Royal Mint of Malaysia.
