RE: When do my needs trump yours?

in #nvc6 years ago

This is a very interesting exploration in that it illustrates how beautiful ideologies (like NVC and Voluntaryism) run into the harsh realities of life. Not everyone is intelligent, educated and resourceful. In the case of Ted, he may have a good friend with social connections who'd start a "Fix Ted's Car!" GoFundMe, or something similar. But on a broader societal scale, when does everyone "grow weary" of being bombarded with appeals to fund every mishap in people's lives?

So we often come back to the idea of teaching mindfulness as a broader way to improve the collective quality of life. The US (in particular) tends to be a very self-involved culture... Not as conscious of how any given choice me make impacts not only our own future, but also that of others.

There are no easy answers, of course. But this is definitely a discussion we benefit from having.

Bright Blessings!
