Autonomous Agents on mainnet

The first major upgrade to the Obyte protocol since launch in 2016 is deployed on mainnet and will activate at MCI 5,210,000. This was preceded by 7 months of testing on testnet, 2,375 Autonomous Agents deployed and 7 rounds of the developer contest.

Autonomous Agent tools have seen significant improvement since they launched last July on testnet, such as the AA Testkit for testing and making sure they function as expected. Obyte.js, a Javascript library for Obyte, was significantly extended to make it much easier to develop browser-based dapps.

All Obyte nodes (including light ones) need to update their wallet. GUI wallets should update to v3.0.1 which fixes some vulnerabilities. Other nodes should stop their node, run npm update in their project folder and start the node again. Full nodes can take hours to migrate data on SSD or even days on HDD.

ODEX on testnet

ODEX, the decentralized exchange being built for Obyte, is now on public testnet. The exchange is fully open source, so if you are a developer and would like to contribute please consider doing so. ODEX does not hold any funds, as funds are stored on an Autonomous Agent that operates strictly according to rules that cannot be changed by anybody. Not your keys, not your Bytes!

Oswap is live

OSwap is a new exchange funded by the Obyte Foundation and built for the Chinese community. Buying Bytes in China has long been an issue, but hopefully not any longer. Oswap provides an instant cryptocurrency exchange service, with no account or KYC required, and is really easy to use. Just:

  1. Select the currency you want to sell
  2. Enter the wallet address of the currency you want to buy
  3. Click send and wait for the transaction to confirm

PolloPollo nominated for another award

Peer-to-peer donation platform PolloPollo which runs on Obyte has been nominated in the CityAM awards for Social Impact and Sustainability. CityAM is a business-focused newspaper distributed in and around London, England. Winners will be announced on March 11.

Microsoft Windows friendly

When you install Obyte gui wallets on Windows you will see that binaries are now signed by the Byteball Foundation (the old name because we applied for the certificate before renaming). Windows still absolutely dominates the computer desktop market with around 90% market share, so many Obbies on Windows will no longer see the security warning about not trusting software without signed binaries.

Developer?

The Obyte platform (written in familiar Node.js) is easy to develop for using simple yet powerful Lego-like building blocks of code. Learn more on the developer website or take the interactive developer quiz.

Would you love to see Obyte become a major platform in the crypto world?

Then please give this article some Steem love!

Thank you.
