Rodrigo Riera
(Carora, Lara, Venezuela, 19 de septiembre de 1923 - Barquisimeto, Lara, Venezuela, 19 de agosto de 1999) fue un guitarrista y compositor venezolano de origen muy humilde y grandes méritos artísticos. Autor de un importante cúmulo de obras para la guitarra clásica, inspiradas y dedicadas al patrimonio musical de su región natal en el Estado Lara en Venezuela. Su escritura nacionalista lo asocia con el trabajo de Antonio Lauro, pero la técnica es más accesible a guitarristas principiantes e intermedios.
Fue también un importante educador de la guitarra clásica. Muchos guitarristas activos actualmente estudiaron con él en los 1980's y 1990's.
Finalmente, tuvo una importante carrera como guitarrista de concierto. No obstante ello, no existen suficientes grabaciones representativas de su trabajo. Las que existen son relativamente difíciles de hallar.

Hermosa pieza clásica del repertorio venezolano, obligatoria para los estudiantes de guitarra en las escuelas de música en nuestro país, no solo por su complejidad sino por la belleza de la melodía.
Riera nos dejó un legado de obras para guitarra de gran variedad, la mayoría de sus creaciones son románticas y muy bellas. Entre las que más gustan de su repertorio se encuentra: Melancolía Monotonía y Nostalgia, el famoso preludio criollo, la catira; entre otras, es conocido este gran maestro al cual acostumbraban llamar de manera muy cariñosa el "cojo Riera". Curso estudios de guitarra en Francia al mismo tiempo que el artista cinético Jesús Soto, se dice que se pagaron su estadía en Europa dando serenatas ambos.
Pienso que cada interprete siente de diferentes maneras las melodías en las obras para guitarra y por ello cada interpretación es diferente a cualquier otra, además el sonido que tiene cada ejecutante es diferente al de los demás. Aquí les dejo mi interpretación de ésta pequeña obra maestra de nuestro compositor mencionado. Espero les guste y la disfruten.

Rodrigo Riera
(Carora, Lara, Venezuela, September 19, 1923 - Barquisimeto, Lara, Venezuela, August 19, 1999) was a Venezuelan guitarist and composer of very humble origin and great artistic merits. Author of an important collection of works for the classical guitar, inspired and dedicated to the musical heritage of his native region in the State of Lara in Venezuela. His nationalist writing associates him with the work of Antonio Lauro, but the technique is more accessible to beginner and intermediate guitarists.
He was also an important educator of classical guitar. Many active guitarists currently studied with him in the 1980's and 1990's.
Finally, he had an important career as a concert guitarist. Nevertheless, there are not enough representative recordings of his work. Those that exist are relatively difficult to find.
Song Caroreña
Beautiful classic piece of Venezuelan repertoire, mandatory for guitar students in music schools in our country, not only for its complexity but for the beauty of the melody.
Riera left us a legacy of guitar pieces of great variety, most of his creations are romantic and very beautiful. Among those who like their repertoire the most are: Melancolía Monotonía y Nostalgia, the famous prelude criollo, la catira; among others, this great master is known who used to call in a very affectionate way the "lame Riera" Guitar studies course in France at the same time as the kinetic artist Jesus Soto, it is said that his stay in France was paid by serenades.
I think that each performer feels in different ways the melodies in the works for guitar and therefore each performance is different from any other, besides the sound that each performer has is different from the others. Here I leave my interpretation of this little masterpiece of our composer mentioned. I hope you like it and enjoy it.
