How to fold your own fold flat cube.

Start with the omega star unit by Philip Shen

If you get stuck please see the post on the sun wreath for more detailed instructions.

Fold four units.

Construction:

Same as the omega star opposite arms of the unit are tucked in (Not shown in picture as I tuck the needed arms as I go).

The way that the units lock together is also exactly the same (please see @ivan-g post if help is needed on how the units join).

The difference is number of units and the fact that two adjacent arms for each unit are connected together in a tabby weave pattern (One arm over the opposite arm under.)

To create the cube appearance pinch the sides into the centre.

To create the fake omega five pointed star fold the edges into the centre creating pointed arms. Fold the model flat such that there are little gaping mouths in each corner. Pinch the bottom left corner of the top face to meet the top right corner. This will swing one of the side facing points to the front in that pentagon shape.

Why is it a fake star? Because it only looks like a star from the front and back the side looks like this:

Folding it into a star does not prevent the whole model from folding flat so have fun.

Happy folding, Grace.

Not sure about the last step but even spreading it out evenly looks like a crazy cool shape :D love your post layout. Awesome seeing you creative works, I'll try the sun wreath later, doesnt look too difficult.

Thank you, it was actually steemit's tendency to upload my pictures upside-down which made me search out a free photo app. I'm using pixlr and it is easier to upload all the needed photos into a collage and edit them all at once than to go through and individually crop and adjust lighting for each photo.
Don't worry about the last step as you can only do it you narrow all the arms into points. I do prefer the square.
If you do give it a go you need to fold it flat such that there are little gaping mouths in each corner. Pinch the bottom left corner of the top face to meet the top right corner. This will swing one of the side facing points to the front in that pentagon shape.

I did something. Now it looks like a cool candy dish xD

That is cool. I'll have to try larger paper to fit some lollies. It also looks springy enough to offer some protection to more delicate items like eggs which would be fun for easter.
If you make the wreath then pull it apart and flip a unit over you get Santa in a ski boat
