What is DAO?

Welcome, readers! In order to understand DAOstack, let us delve into the meaning of DAO. What is DAO? DAO is a Decentralized Autonomous Organization. It is an organization which is run by computer programs in a method called smart contracts. Smart contracts, in turn, is a digital type of contract operated by machines. As I understand it, DAO will be run on computers or servers with no need of humans. Blockchain technology made it possible for DAO to be run because of the incorruptibility and hacking resistant which the technology base its foundation on.

How DAO is run?

How can DAO be run? What is the most important factor of DAO? It is the smart companies or agencies. The agency will ensure that the smart contracts on the blockchain of the DAO will run smoothly. The agency will have its own tokens, reputation system, and governance. The tokens are referred to the company’s resources. The reputation system is similar to the credibility of the company and the governance are rules embedded on the smart contracts. The simple example of governance is a yes or no proposals to make a decision within the DAO.

DAOstack

As we can see from the above figure, there are a lot of components which come into play that forms the DAOstack ecosystem. The figure below will summarise each of the components indicated.

DAOstack aims to be an upgrade of the DAO which will have interoperability among DAOs. Arc, the base of the DAOstack, will be in charge of the interoperability. Arc will enable DAOs to be operated, created and deployed on the Ethereum blockchain. The advantage of creating the DAO through Arc is rules can be changed because each DAO created include rules to change the rules. This is non-existent in traditional DAOs.

Alchemy is developed by DAOstack to allow anyone to create their own DAO or agency and they can start to cooperate with the existing agencies in the ecosystem. Alchemy relies on Arc.js which is the Javascript library. The objective of Arc.js is to make it easy for Javascript developers to make their applications on top of the Arc component without any knowledge of the Solidity language and the Ethereum blockchain.

Furthermore, DAOstack also aims to be an operating system for the DAO just like the Windows Series for the computers in building the applications for DAO. DAOstack will have a solid framework and scalable. DAOstack uses GEN tokens for its distribution among the contributors of the DAOstack to promote development and adoption.

Roadmap

DAOstack has a roadmap which shows that the project can be completed within a stipulated time. DAOstack is expected to be released in late 2019.
