Marlo's Secret. Short Story by @sweetjoy

Marlo ran as fast as he could to tell his Pa what he just saw.

He tripped and fell a few times, but that didn't stop him.

This was news, boy, this was news.

"Pa!!". Marlo cried out.
But he was so out of breath it came out as a whisper.

Marlo was slightly over weight.
He ran a total two country miles on a hot summer night.

Secretly he was so proud of himself.

He painfully climbed his front porch stairs. They creaked from his weight with each step.

" Pa!" Marlo called out to his father.

"What's all this racquet Boy?" The old man scrambled to the front door.

Old man Tassle had a peg leg.

Years ago he slipped on manure and hit his foot on jagged metal.

His foot was amputated after that.

Out of breath, huffing and puffing Marlo told his Pa what he saw.

"A train carrying gold had an accident up yonder....look Pa"

He pulled out gold coins from all of his pockets.

Marlo even fit a pieces of gold in his shoes.

Old man Tassle rushed over to the gold on the floor.

His leg pecking the wood floor like a typewriter. Tick, tick, tick, tock.

Old man Tassle picked up and bit a gold coin.

How many times had he been fooled with candy...

"Haaha it's real!! Good job son!!
Now let's get more."

The old man and and the boy rushed out and jumped in the horses.

To the train tracks they went.

"Aww man." Said Marlo.

The Sheriff and his men were there at the crash scene.

"Oh well..Marlo. You done good boy!!"

"Thanks Pa." Marlo answered.

They drove on home.

Marlo looked towards the hiding spot where he stashed gold for himself.

He sat back a relaxed on the ride home.

If Marlo learned anything at all about grandpa's peg leg is...shit happens.
