who founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 1996. As a cricketer, he played international cricket for two decades in the late twentieth century and is considered one of the greatest players of all time. He was captain of the Pakistan national cricket team that won the 1992 Cricket World Cup.

After retiring from cricket, Khan entered politics and founded PTI, a centre-right political party, and became a member of the National Assembly. He contested for a seat in the National Assembly in 2002 and served as an opposition member from 2002 to 2007. He was again elected to the parliament in 2013, this time as a member of PTI. He also served as the Chancellor of Bradford University from 2005 to 2014.

In the 2018 general election, Khan's PTI emerged as the largest party in the National Assembly, winning 116 of the 342 seats. Khan was sworn in as Prime Minister of Pakistan
