Koe no Katachi (The Shape of Voice), a cinematic masterpiece

in #palnet5 years ago (edited)

Hands down the best movie I've ever seen, even considering non-animated titles. Genres: Slice of Life and Drama.

A Silent Voice

The official english title translation is awful. It takes away from the original intent. However, this is the only bad thing anyone can say about the entire animation.

The protagonist, Ishida, starts out as a spontaneous bully child who is eventually struck by how despicable his actions were and starts to resent himself for picking on a deaf girl.

Now in his last year of school, he still isn't able to deal with his past sins, which leads him to become a social shut-in who eventually decides to suicide, but changes his mind at the very last second.

He sets out to meet the person who he had once bullied. At this point, the plot expands into everyone related to his situation with greater depth: his old friends, his family and the bullied person's family.

We get to know everyone's lives who were involved with him since he cast himself out years earlier, and how they deal with each other in the present, along with new acquaintances.

Koe no Katachi presents us with an emotional ride. One you'll feel happy to have watched once it comes to an ending. Throughly recommended to everyone.

Manga

Koe no Katachi was first presented to the world as a highly acclaimed story, but the movie is truly brilliant, so even if you decide to read the manga first, don't miss out on watching it!

While searching for pictures to use on this article, I've found this amazing speed paint video by Shijohane of a scene in the movie. Check it out:

Sounds like it has a really good message to it. I haven't really watched any anime other than action tittles but I with this high of praise I might have to check this out next time my lady and I are looking for something to watch.

You'll love it!

I watched this once and yes, I do think the art and the animation is good, but I can't seem to understand what makes the story good. Yes, we get to see the MC's guilt and how the other bois changes to become more mature and colder and seem like they don't care, but deep down they're all just don't know how to casually befriend the kid they bullied in the past (or at least that's what I get). But I don't know what to feel... .-.

Maybe I just don't know what to enjoy in slice of life genre? But that'd be weird because I love 5 Centimeters Per Second. Maybe I need to watch this again...

That doesn't happen actively, much less intentionally. Slice of life shows you things that really do happen in real life. It's not about the stories, but the people themselves. It's the most "humane" of all genres.

Ishida has changed his mind and he became a good guy. But the sins from his past still follow him. People can not forgive other mistake easily.

He's the one who doesn't forgive himself the most. :)
