Her time will come

in #palnet5 years ago (edited)

I just went to an organ recital at Vilnius Cathedral where my colleague Diana Enciene played some music by Joseph Rheinberger, German Romantic composer and organist. He was a very prolific composer, among many things he wrote 20 sonatas and actually wanted to create 24 - one in every major and minor key.

So today Diana played the 4h organ sonata which consists of 4 movements and a Passacaglia from the 8th organ sonata.

At first Rheinberger was influenced by early Romantics, such as Mendelssohn, Schubert and Schumann but later in life Brahms had the biggest impact to his style.

We could say he had great respect for the music of Johann Sebastian Bach because he used lots of contrapuntal techniques from the Baroque period but he also added chromatic harmonies which are already a sign of Romantic period.

Diana did a great job in helping Neo-Baroque organ of Vinius cathedral sound more Romantic.

After the recital when I was going to get my car from the parking lot I met an organ student - a lady of similar age who is just starting to learn to play the organ, her name is Grazina and she was really happy with the concert. She said she can't get enough of the pipe organ.

I said maybe one day she will play there too... She already is practicing there from time to time during lessons but I hope the time will come when she will play a short recital at Vilnius cathedral as well.

I'm sure her progress would be much much faster if she decided to participate in our Secrets of Organ Playing Contest.

I think if you go to the goal, you will definitely achieve it. And Grazin will play in Vilnius Cathedral if he tries. Photos of the cathedral are beautiful, very beautiful.

It may take some time but there is no reason why she can't succeed...

I love the 8th Sonata. I play the Passacaglia as well, but not for a long time. What are the specifications of this instrument?

Here it is: http://www.vargonai.lt/vargonai_vilnius_arkikatedra.htm
It's in Lithuanian but you will get the idea.

Acoustical 32' stop consisting of subbass 16 and a low fifth pipes.

Oh ok. It’s still effective in the bottom
octave.

Those photographs with the paintings and the organ at the background are beautiful.

Yes, I like how historical organ facades fit into the interior of the cathedral.
