Pani puri
Pani puri (also known as golgappa, gol gappa, puchka, or gupchup, depending on the region) is one of the most popular street foods in the Indian subcontinent.
It consists of:
- Crisp, hollow semolina or wheat shells (puris)
- A filling of mashed potatoes, chickpeas, or sprouts
- Tangy, spicy mint-coriander water (“pani”)
- Sweet tamarind chutney (optional)
The puri is filled just before eating, creating a crunchy, spicy, sweet, and tangy bite.
A typical serving contains 6–8 puris. Nutritionally, one serving usually provides around 200–350 calories, depending on the fillings and chutneys used.
