Versatile and Specialised 多才多艺和专业化

One of my family values is to become versatile, which means being equipped to be multi-talented. Certainly, no one can be good in everything. To be versatile may end up being mediocre in everything or good at nothing. Practically, it is important to be specialised. In whatever field, there are people who are able to do the same thing. To be specialised, it means the person can do the common thing uniquely better than others. Then, how should we be versatile and specialised at the same time?

Being versatile, it means that the person is prepared to learn a number of things, inclusive of different skills. If you are a teacher, you can try teaching different subjects instead of just being knowledgeable in one subject. If you are a vocalist, you can also learn to handle various musical instruments.

By being specialised, you become expert in that specific area. And often you may be sought after because of your specialisation. But being versatile who has certain level of knowledge in different subjects or skills, this would help to enhance your network with more people of diverse backgrounds. The people who first connected with you may not due to your specialisation, but rather another subject you have demonstrated certain level of knowledge. But as you are connected with more people, you may also expose yourself to more opportunities to utilise your specialisation.
