Pathfinder for Kids: Session 3

in #pathfinder6 years ago

SPOILER ALERT: Vague Reign of Winter references!

I had another Pathfinder session with my two daughters last week. It went really well. It was the aftermath of the last big fight, including searching the rest of the lodge. As it was a short session, only about an hour and fifteen minutes. However, since it was not any combat in the session we got lots of roleplaying in. They got to queries the bad guys about their master plan with varying levels of success. I'm not making it too hard because while deep interrogations may make for good drama in adult gaming sessions, I'd keep that out of my kid's sessions. So a bit more boss monologuing and easier information is the order of the day.

I'm also learning about how kids don't care about all the monetary loot. They go oh and ahh, but then they don't bother to write anything down. Now if they get a magical cloak or weapon, they instantly get excited and incorporate it into their roleplaying, but not so much with the money side of things. I think I'm going to track it for them, probably round here of there for ease of paperwork and then dole out the money. I'm sure they'll love the shopping part of having money, just not the accounting parts.

They complained about the length of time between sessions, so I'll certainly try and have the next one sooner. Just been so busy lately. Hate to keep them waiting if they are this excited.

Hi, I'm new to Steemit and late for your post but wanted to leave a comment.

I love roleplaying with kids. You have to change the plot and some elements - like you wrote with the long questioning. But it's interesting because they sometimes do things that you hadn't expected. (OK, so no difference to adults there...)

I even had a GM last year who was 7 years old. It was an easy game system (Dungeonslayers, only in German I think) and the plot he thought out was quite basic - but there was a little boy leading three adult players through a dungeon and we loved it!
