RE: Path of Exile: Progression Update On Softcore Synthesis League

in #pathofexile5 years ago

I've just started getting into Path of Exile after looking at it occasionally over the years. :) Played Diablo into the ground, Titan's Quest, Torchlight, Eternium on the phone; all similar games... noticed that a lot of people here play Path of Exile and thought I'd finally download and open it. Maybe one day join in @mattclarke's PoE race thingy. When I know what I'm doing, haha!

Made a witch and ended up staying up waaaay past my bedtime last night because I was enthralled with it :D (Fun, but also not fun when you wake up at 4am every day, eurgh)

I joined the standard game though, not Synthesis... was wondering which one I should choose but figured since I'm a newb, standard would probably be best.

Slowly getting the hang of it. :)

Played Diablo into the ground

Many say PoE is how D3 should have been. While the game itself has some faults I'm at over 1,700 hours played over the years. I never been more hyped or excited for a league like I have been for Synthesis. Which in itself is quite a feat for them to keep a player like me wanting to come back for more.

I joined the standard game though

Synthesis is a fresher economy and once the league ends it gets transferred over to standard. So there really no draw back unless you hate the current league. This one is hard to hate since you have to interact with the NPC to trigger it and go into his memory. It's all the other past leagues that have been added to core game you have worry about :)

My favorite part of the game is still a past league that got added to the core game called Delve. I’ll be spending as much time as I can down in that mine going as deep as I can. Last time I made it to depth 255. This time I’m hoping a lot further!

PoE race

If you got time next time just go for it. It’s only 24 hours long. I’m just a softcore noob despite all my years playing and get rocked every time hehe. It was great fun regardless. Some classes even don't have many playing since they are slower as a league starter. Something like a shadow had I think 4 ot 5 people this time fighting it out including myself.

Titan's Quest

That is a game I been meaning to get around to. I’ve played it last year for a couple of hours. It seemed really fun. There are a couple ARPG’s I want get into but I keep getting dragged back into PoE at every league start!

I hope you have lots of fun. I’ve had many way to many late nights myself. After the weekend is over I’m going regain some self-control and cut back a bit. I been going like a mad man while the economy is fresh and ripe for the picking!

I was wondering about the economy! Since there doesn't seem to be any gold or currency, except for the shop --which I assume is all Cosmetic - I don't think there'd be such a vibrant playerbase if it were pay-to-win.

Maybe I'll start again and try out Synthesis. :) I have a habit of getting into the economy of MMO's... though I guess it's not quiiiite the same in this. I don't think I'll be farming up herbs and ores! Haha! And it's probably settled down a bit since you posted this 3 days ago. :)

My witch is level 12 at the moment and still in Act I, I just fought the guy in the prison who reminded me a lot of Diablo's Butcher. I assume I go through the story and then later on I can access these past leagues? :) Sounds like SO MUCH awaits!!

With Titan Quest - I love it so much. But I'm not sure if that's because it's actually a good game, or because I was playing it with friends at the time and it's a reminder of good times. That was the life. Lugging my entire setup around back and forth for LAN Titan Quest and Unreal Tournament gaming. Glad I have a laptop now, haha! :D

Just about any item used for crafting is consider currency. Since it has value alone in what it can do to an item.

Crafting is a very complex system and each league brings its own new mechanics that often get merged.

Mains ones everyone uses tend to be Exalted Orb, Chaos Orb, and Orb of Alchemy. Most things tend to get listed in price of Chaos Orbs. Atm 1 Exalted Orb is worth 92 Chaos Orbs. 1 Alchemy is worth ½ a Chaos Orb

Trading is mostly done though a site like this https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Synthesis it belongs to PoE. If you buy a premium stash tab their API will auto list anything for sale in it to that site and any other site that pulls API information.

It’s also where you find trades and then you just contact people in game to make a trade with someone.

I don't think there'd be such a vibrant playerbase if it were pay-to-win

Correct. Cash shop only sells cosmetics, more char slots (you get like 30 for free), more stash tabs (where I assume they make a lot money they got stuff for storing items, currency, cards, maps) and bunch others stuff.

You can even select the option of Solo Self Found if you don't want do trading/grouping with anyone. Granted while in towns you can still see other players but that is it.

I’m guilty of only spending around $20 in my time for more stash tabs.

Since this last comment... I'm now level 23. 😀

That's good to know about the orbs! I've gotten a couple of Orb of Alchemies that I've used myself, but haven't seen either of the other two yet. Guessing they're very rare or later game. :) I'll have to add that link to my bookmarks, too!!

I've gone through a bit of the microtransaction store, but haven't looked through extensively yet. Any chance there's an inventory expander? ~ shifty eyes ~ The urge to pick up everything hurts. Really hurts. Lol!

Now that I've played a bit more, I actually feel more "Titan Quest" with this game than I do "Diablo". I think it's the Orbs and how you combine things together to make full orbs. In Titan Quest, you'll find things like Shard of the Boar, and once you've combined 4 of shards, you'll get a Sigil of the Boar (or something, just off the top of my head) and then you use that Sigil to enhance your armour. The art style as well is very similar.

So far I'm enjoying it heaps! I may or may not have neglected my duties today... ~ whistles innocently ~

Hi @kaelci :)
Always happy to have a new face in the race.
Every 3 months or so the team at GGG release a new update, with a heap of new content.
The last one was Betrayal., the current one is Synthesis.
You can either play the standard game, which you're doing, or the new League.
I have my hardcore races coincide with the start of a new league so that I know nobody has the chance to get a headstart.
Enjoy yourself, have fun. Keep an eye out for my announcement post shortly before the next league drops in 2.5 months.

Cheers! :) I've followed you and am looking forward to the announcement! :D By then I hope to know my way around the game a bit more and can actually be a proper contender, hehe!
