Oyster Seeker In The East Coast Of Aceh

Late afternoon in the east coast of Aceh, Kuala Langsa fisherman village, I found a woman sitting in front of her house who peeling off the oysters shell. At that time I was passing in front of her house. I stopped by and say hi to her. Her name is Mrs. Zubaidah. She is an oysters seeker and also at the same time an oiysters peeler to later be sold and finance her family daily lives.

This activity takes place every day in the afternoon or evening. To get fresh oiyster she go starting in the morning, go to the sea with a small boat with other seeker when the sea water is a little bit on the ground. Stop in a shallow place and then they scratch the sand below using a machete or rake. Then collect all the oiyster catched into the bucket. It shouldn't be too long at that place because the water is getting deeper and the current starts to swell. Like today she gets 4 buckets full of oiysters, which is equivalent to 4 kg of oiyster meat. The price of 1 kg of oiysters meat reaches 20,000 rupiahs if sold to the agent, but if you buy it directly it can reach 25,000 per kilogram.
