What is the best time to cut timber? DO YOU KNOW HOW TREES WORK?
In this video I discuss tropical wood cutting theory. Using lunar cycles to determine timber harvest times - here I explain what I have learned from the locals, interpreted through the lens of my scientific education.
I hope you are all having a great week - as we move forward on our projects, we must stop to think about the order we do things in. Priorities, as well as considerations of timing.
Only cutting bamboo at a certain time of the month is not always convenient, and requires careful planning. It also gives no guarantee of the weather.
Trying to read Mother Nature's schedules is a humbling experience - but trying to design with these natural forces, not against them, has been a fruitful experience so far.
That's why houses from colonial times have lasted to the present day. The trees that serve as a base were cut down with this knowledge.
In the fields that I frequent here in Venezuela, those things have been lost a lot. It is good to know that there are towns in Colombia that still preserve them.

The process of cutting with the moon, is also super great for fruit or medicinal plants. It is a learning inherited from grandmothers.

That’s some great education, @ecoinstant! I never thought of the solar properties of trees. And I also never considered that cutting a tree at different times of the day or night, or under different phases of the moon, would make much difference. But you explained it really well and it totally makes sense!

Very interesting information, you've shared here. I think, people from the older time were wiser than us, and they needed to be, because they didn't have machines and all the facilities we have now a days. I don't know whether it is good or not, but we do have more time to think and build more things than they had, so people from all the times and all the generations have advantages and disadvantages of their own times.
