"Sun Halo" yesterday on our small town
Yesterday, we were treated to a rare phenomenon called Sun Halo as the sun in our small town of Ubay, located in the province of Bohol Philippines appeared to be surrounded by a halo of light as seen on the picture below.
What is Sun Halo?
A quick google search leads us to a wikipedia article explaining what this rare phenomenon is all about:
Halo is the name for a family of optical phenomena produced by light interacting with ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. Halos can have many forms, ranging from colored or white rings to arcs and spots in the sky.

Reading the full article above, lead me to believe that what we witnessed yesterday was called a 22 degree halo or a sun halo. The halo seen circling around the sun was caused by sunlight passing through ice crystals in cirrus clouds within the earth's atmosphere.
It got it's name 22 degree halo from the approximate ring radius of 22° around the Sun or Moon.
