Ranking the Arctic Monkeys Albums

in #philippines6 years ago

Ever since their debut album of People Say Whatever I am That's What I'm not (2006) to their ascension of being the rock gods of AM (2013) to their latest album Tranquility base hotel and Casino (2018), Arctic Monkeys have delivered and evolved to a music that a lot of people can muster into and enjoy to their diverse melodies.

Here are my rankings from the least to their best, I won't be including their EP's (sorry Who The F are Arctic Monkeys) but I will give them a shout out to their amazing EP singles like

Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts, No Buses, Stop the World and I wanna get off with you and many more

.(They really have a good B-Sides songs that should be on their albums) without further ado lets start from the lowest ranking

6. Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino (2018)

Rating: 7.09/10

Starting it off with their latest album when It first came out, a lot of the fans were disappointed especially the AM ones, they were anticipating a sequel to their successful predecessor AM which was released in 2013 ever since then fans yearn for their new album to kick off but Instead we were given a different style of music that left most of the fans disappointed, where Alex's voice has changed since 2014 due to his cigarette addiction but still gives us great tracks like One Point Perspective, 4 out of 5 and Ultracheese the album does resonate to The Last Shadow Puppet's latest album 'Everything you've come to expect' (2016). (where Alex is also a part of with Miles Kane) Where Fans would also tease that is a sequel to the TLSP's 2016 album.

It also has the Stanley Kubrick's Shining and David Bowie vibes that does picture yourself at top of the building in your hotel at night while listening to this album while looking at the city streets and drinking your favourite wine and chill.

One Point Perspective

The only thing I put this on last because It does not have the Arctic Monkeys signature vibes that people felt in their past five albums although they are all different this one felt lacking but It fills a new flavor that I could still sit back and enjoy.

5. Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007)

Rating: 7.708/10

The successor of their debut album Favourite Worst Nightmare has a lot of heavy hitters like Brianstorm, Fluorescent Adolescent, Teddy Picker, 505 and Do Me a Favour and it also has tracks that are forgettable or I would prefer to call them okay but listening to this album as a whole doesn't feel any balance to it, the other half is brilliant while the other half is watered down and many fans would consider this a sequel or a little brother of their debut album since it has a lot of similarities but overall it is still a great album since the singles and half of the track are so good.

Fluorescent Adolescent

One of the tracks that got me hooked into this band. I first heard them at the London Olympics where they played the Beatles cover and thought that they were freaking cool and decided to search them on the net and found this and ever since I've been listening to them and to this masterpiece for a quite awhile now. Also it narrates a story of my high school days and how it comes my current relationship with my old mates that's why I love it so much a tragic good song for me.

4. Suck it and See (2011)

Rating: 7.708/10

Suck it and See is probably the most underrated album of the Monkeys has produced it has the pop punk rock vibe, where the album is consistently influenced by the American culture where they tend to follow the Biker gangs and west coast of america.

The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala

Can't say much about this album the only thing I can feel about this album that is a perfect track for an afternoon drive alone, with friends or lovers. Still a great album perhaps the only thing why I rate this above Favourite Worst Nightmare is because of the consistency of the track they tend to have the same resonance or feel into it while listening it as a whole but It wouldn't compete with mighty singles of FWN.

3. People Say Whatever I am That's What I'm Not (2006)

Rating: 8/10

The Debut album of the band where they ravaged the internet and where their UK No. 1 Album chart streak started up until to its current album. It's an amazing story how the Monkeys started off their band with giving free CD's to the public and fans started to love them and posted them on MySpace where their popularity spurts into a success. Given that most the tracks were rash and wild it was the sole definition of the Monkeys first public image that they were defined as a indie rock stars where people go to bars and watch them live and mostly men loved them because of how the lyrics of the album is more based on young teenage years of being a High School or a college student.

A Certain Romance

But before publishing their very first album they have been releasing their EP's to the public and some of the well known hits were already making its mark on the streets like I bet you look good on the dance floor and A certain romance, the people love them and their popularity grew and grew in the UK it is the quintessential part of the monkeys history and of course their old EP's are a class of their own.

2. AM (2013)

Rating: 8.25/10

I would be lying if I say I didn't hate this album but that doesn't mean it would be my least favuorite album, the only reason why I hate this album is because this is the turning point of the Arctic Monkeys where they turn into a slow cocky band that we know today I used to love them of their persona's especially Turner back in past first four albums and we could never see them live ever again in that persona.

In this album the Arctic Monkeys has reached to their peak and became a global sensation, AM has delivered heavy blows of great singles and are synonymous known as an album of singles, I mean 3/4 of the tracks of these albums are singles and are very good tracks like R U Mine, Do I wanna Know, Arabella, One For the Road and many more.

Also this put Arctic Monkeys into the map where they became more widely known and more visible to the world also this is where they gained a lot of followers of AM's catchy tracks that people would label the album seductive and where Alex Turner is regarded into a sex symbol.

Arabella

AM is an album to be described as a night club, night drive or night chill song where you gather your friends and party to play this seductive album and rocking it out with the track, also it has a good hangover song like Mad Sounds and Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? or where No. 1 Party Anthem kicks in to do the slow dance during prom night. This album is basically a night time party track. (not a bed time track though lol).

1. Humbug (2009)

Rating: 8.5/10

This album would be regarded as the worst by some or the best in every ranking I read. The attraction of this album is that it really turned the table for the Arctic Monkeys they derived a new formula in to their music and experimenting a new way to play their music while maintaining there identity or signature as a band, it also has the rich sound and dark sinister sounds into it like adding the keyboard in to the mix where you would picture some of its tracks in to the dark horror film notably like Jeweller's Hands which has a sinister and dark tone into it.

Some of the tracks of the Humbug also contain a tragic tone into it like Dance Little Liar and Secret Door which are masterpieces, Cornerstone stands out as a lamp of this album because that single alone is the source of light in to the dark room known as the Humbug and also projects a dark rainy background surrounding outside which would be referred as Crying Lightning.

Secret Door

I would picture the whole Album as a dark room with thunderstorm outside while only having one source of light in the room surrounded by objects that would resemble to the songs titles, I mean I really wanna do an illustration of it although I'm still not good at doing room interior illustration maybe one of these days. The album is also revered of it's natural endearing psychedelic sound also of how methodical their lyrics are that is also deep and dark and it also very endearing that can traverse you to a different place.

I would love to make a ranking of their EP's songs but I guess It will take a while since I'm not really fond of doing song rankings.

I haven't wrote an article for almost a months since I'm having writer's block It took me almost two weeks to finish this article alone I'm having a hard time expressing my thoughts or to articulate them in a consistent manner but hey I will try to post some of the good bands or artists I like, (Panic at the Disco, Lorde and etc.) If I get the chance I will be posting more on my artwork since I feel I haven't made progress in past few weeks but I'm trying to sooth my way of progression of doing digital and traditional art.

Thank you for reading my article hope you have great time.

Sort:
