People are so embedded in the established system that they are unable to devise alternatives to the criteria imposed by power.

To achieve this, power makes use of empty entertainment, with the aim of abounding our social sensitivity, and accustoming us to see vulgarity and stupidity as the most normal things in the world, incapacitating us from reaching a critical awareness of reality.

In empty entertainment, sapphire and disrespectful behaviour is seen as a positive value, as we constantly see on television, in so-called «reality shows», and in spectacle gatherings where shouting and disrespect is the rule, with show business being the most complete and effective form of the system set up to abhor society.

In this subculture of empty entertainment, what is promoted is a system based on the values of extreme collectivism, in which solidarity and respect for the individual are seen as naive. In empty entertainment, everything is designed so that the individual can stoically support the established system without any hesitation. History does not exist, the future does not exist; only the present and the immediate satisfaction that empty entertainment provides. That is why it is not surprising that self-help books, authentic psychological swill, or Coelho-style mysticism, or infinite variants of the classic «how to become a millionaire without effort» proliferate.

Ultimately, the point of empty entertainment is to convince us that nothing can be done: that the world is what it is and cannot be changed, and that new forms of mercantilism and the oppressive power of the state are as natural and necessary as the force of gravity itself. That is why it is common to hear: "The world is a mess, human beings are evil there is nothing to do about it, the war will forever exist. There is nothing that can be done concerning that matter."

Empty entertainment has achieved the extraordinary feat of making the values of totalitarianism with its foundations in communism the values of those who are enslaved by it. This is not something recent, La Boétie, in that distant 16th century, saw it clearly, expressing his astonishment in his little treatise on voluntary servitude, in which he notes that most tyrants endure only because of the acquiescence of the tyrants themselves.

The established system is very subtle, with its stupidities it forges our mental structures, and for this it makes use of the pulpit that we all have in our houses: the television. There is nothing in it that is innocent, in every program, in every film, in every news item, it always oozes the values of the established system, and without realizing it, believing that true life is like that, they introduce its values into our minds.

Empty entertainment exists to hide the obvious relationship between the banking system and the catastrophes that plague the world. This is why the empty spectacle must exist: so that while the individual swallows in the rubbish that the power provides on television, he does not see the obvious, does not protest and continues to allow the state and those in power to increase their power and control, while the common citizen of the world continue to suffer and be enslaved to work double shifts so that banks could be saved.

If we continue to allow empty entertainment to continue to shape our consciousness, it will end up destroying us. Because their objective is none other than to create a society of men and women who abandon the ideals and aspirations that make them free, to conform to the satisfaction of needs induced by the interests of those in power to control them. Thus, human beings are stripped of all personality, turned into passive animals, the old idea of fighting against those who want to take away our freedom is completely deactivated, atomized in a swarm of unbridled egotists, leaving people alone and unconnected with each other more than ever, absorbed in the exaltation of themselves. Hence, in this way, individuals are no longer conscious of how they are being manipulated, they no longer have the strength or the social cohesion to fight against those who want to take away their freedom.

However, if we want to reverse this situation of alienation to which we are subjected, all that remains, as always, is the struggle, we can only oppose other values that are diametrically opposed to those of the empty spectacle, so that a new society may emerge. A society in which life dominated by the absurdity of empty entertainment is but a reminder of the stupid times when human beings allowed their lives to be manipulated in such an obscene way.
