RE: Abracadabra and the 'Magic' of Words

in #philosophy6 years ago

Both parts of this series are great reads. If you write another, I would be interested if or how the double slit particle/wave experiment might fit into this framework. Considering how soundwaves and frequencies affect the world around us is a very interesting concept when paired up with the emotional energy invested in words.

While reading this I also had to think of the work of Masaru Emoto and the ice crystals formed in his experiments with words and water, you may know of his work, if not, I will just leave a link here. There is also the relevant rice experiment, which may be of interest as well.

I very much enjoyed these, thanks for writing!

Yeah I've previously accepted the Emoto ice crystal one when I used to believe in other things, but I have doubts after being more critical and developed my critical thinking and understanding of how thinking works. Have you ever done these experiments, repeatedly, to get the same results?

The double slit experiment is highly misunderstood by so many, which was a catalyst of me diverging from all the wo0wo0 I used to accept after I delved into it to really understand it more. What I am talking about in these posts is language, imagery and influence on consciousness. Some words are symbolic, not literal magical powers ;)

I understand where you are coming from, I was merely pointing to those ideas, not necessarily endorsing them. I didn't take your treatment as an actual endorsement of the existence of magic, no worries there. It is interesting however to see how words can really affect the human psyche, especially when oft repeated as a conditioning agent. Having gone through Brave New World again recently, I got a lot out of reading these.

I haven't personally tried the rice experiment, as it would have to be done many times over many months to provide me with anything I would consider reliable data, and even then, I couldn't control for all variables - even in a sterile lab (where did the rice come from, how was it treated etc.). It would be, if anything, be a merely fun experiment.
