The downside of anime.

in #philosophy7 years ago (edited)

Anime is solely entertainment and is nothing that any other form of media entertainment isn't also guilty of. It is guilty of one word. Escapism. Google defines it as "the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy." And that is true. Whether you are someone who binge watch for hours to end to escape from reality, such an habit is incredibly unhealthy as it can have both mental and physical impacts. Once this habit becomes too severe you have to snap back to reality from whats known as "Escapism" to “Avoidance”. Indeed, life is full of hardships so it’s great to take a step back from reality and get lost in the fantasies of our own minds. That’s why we read books about faraway lands and explore virtual worlds with powerful avatars like anime. Too much of it in excessiveness, however, can be detrimental to your productivity and personal growth. What is Escapism? google has defined it for us. But Escapism in its most elementary form is basically deliberate detachment and distraction from the real world. This is completely normal to endorse in. Telling stories, eating food, and even playing sports all can be used to escape. All that said, all these things actually are not bad for you, its actually good for your brain, particularly daydreaming. Without Escapism, the stressful life of everyday can tire you out its definitely good to take a break once in a while. Escapism allows you to walk away from your emotions when you’re feeling pressured, and go back to a problem with a clear mind. When you’re going through a difficult situation, disappearing into a good book or watching anime can help you combat with the harshness of reality in tiny, simple-to-handle amounts. Like anything else in life, you can go too distant that is to say that you do things excessively.

Before you binge watch anime again, take a moment to think and do not watch until the point of harming your wellbeing.

As with all things in life, we have to do things moderation, so watch anime in moderation.

Miyazaki's Studio Ghibil animes are probably a little bit deeper than that, but I agree with the doing things in moderation part :)

or just spend time on steemit :)

I think this is important for anyone that allows binge watching to effect their life in bigger than normal/healthy ways. Which can be negative and most likely are negative. For a while I have wondered what the effects of too much anime, video games, tv/movies, or anything else that exists in the world of technology and the Internet would be on those spending much of their existence being absorbed in those things. I do have some thoughts on the issue which I will soon blog about. But I am glad to see that someone else is seeing this as well. This is one of the first posts I have seen that speak about escapism and anime and their negative effects when indulged in too much. Thanks for the post!

Anime used to be good, but today it's filled with fan-service and traps. #MakeAnimeGreatAgain

The best anime.
