Life happens. Then you step in paint...

in #philosophy5 years ago

Life happens...Good and bad stuff and also plain-old everyday stuff...It is what it is. Sure, we can plan, strategise, set goals and generally aim in a particular direction, which I actually endorse wholeheartedly, however sometimes life just gets the better of us. It's inevitable. Even heading in the right direction isn't enough to prevent or avoid life's little mishaps.

Planning around the unknown is difficult and so other strategies must come into play. Well, maybe not strategies as such, but emotions I guess. You see, I think that attitude plays a huge role in a person's life and the right one can pay dividends, just like the wrong one can prove costly in a negative way. A great attitude, quite simply, is the best one to have and yet, miraculously, many do not.

Here's a picture of life happening...Well, to be more accurate it happened (past tense.) You're looking at a can of paint; A can that once contained paint. It spewed-forth in a mad dash for freedom...All over the floor of the hardware store...Then the can's unfortunate soon-to-be-owner stepped in it and left a foot print which you can see there at the top-right of the paint puddle.

This is the definition of life happens and I'm sure the person who hoped to own the can of paint made up a few excellent swear-word-combinations...I would have, and considering the owner was my non-steemit brother I am certain he would have done the same. So, life happened pretty hard here and whilst he laughs about it now...Well, I laugh AT HIM about it I'm sure he was cursing his bad luck at the time.

But hang on, don't we all know that these things are going to happen? Yep, we do. And it's how we deal with them at the time that really matters. It's the attitude one applies to these little life-occurrences that defines them.

I think we need to laugh a little more at ourselves; Not take ourselves too seriously all the time. We need to understand that we (people) are not perfect and things happen sometimes. It's ok, it happens to all of us! Apply the right attitude to the situation(s) we are faced with and allow it to have less impact on our lives. Sure, getting mad at the dude at the paint factory who didn't put the lid on the paint firmly enough is easy, but he didn't drop it did he? Nope, my brother did.

I think a lot of the time people have volatile reactions to these little life-occurrences out of embarrassment which is sort of understandable as some people will feel vindicated making other's feel foolish for these little things. But realistically they happen to everyone sooner or later and it's not really a big deal. People should take a chill-pill; No point losing one's cool over such minor things.

My brother wasn't really too fussed about this scenario to be honest; He was inside the hardware store and hadn't paid for the paint. I think he would have been more upset if it happened in the car park or the back of his car though! Besides it was one of his workers who stepped in the paint, not my brother...I think he was too busy laughing at his worker to worry about getting stressed about the whole episode. I mean seriously all that floor space and yet he steps in the paint? Clown.

Anyway, I had a small incident myself today, hence this post. I felt a little embarrassed but laughed it off and have now provided a great deal for my team at work to laugh about also. It's cool because laughing at oneself is great medicine. It teaches humility. Little stuff like this happens to everyone but we all handle it differently. Be the person who applies a good attitude to it, not the person who rants and raves...You'll be happier, have more self-respect and respect from others. Attitude is everything.

Totally agree! We really don’t fix anything by becoming angry at a situation. We need to deal with it simply put!

Yeah, a little laughter goes a long way.

Life is a series of accidents. :)
And there really is nothing else to be done when something has already happened, than laugh, or try do the same thing again, without the accident.

Laughter is free right? Might as well use it then! 😀
