Middle class is essential for healthy nations and probably for the world as a whole. But the middle class is disappearing. It has lost most of it's appeal. A moderate life of service(which supports the results I think this post is looking for) is not something people strive for anymore.

"We like to blame society, technology, advertising, governments and banks but, it is us as individuals who have created and supported them out of our own complacency or, greed. We want it all. We want to be free but, we want to maximize our own value at the expense of others. And with everyone doing the same, none can have their freedom."

There is a difference between happiness and contentment.
Our efforts to be happy in the moment, are undermining our long term contentment.
The old fashioned values, so misunderstood and maligned by a post-modern world, still hold the keys to humanities success. It is a challenge to have old fashioned values with the amazing new technology available today.
