RE: Thoughts on Augmentation

in #philosophy5 years ago

Timothy Leary's dead..No, no, he's outside looking in.

amber played legend of a mind (timothy leary's dead) by the moody blues last night, which had me reflecting about how many younger people don't know the history of hallucinogenics let alone the identity or work of timothy leary. drugs might be an experiment to a few, but to most they are just another form of extreme sports to be tested.

were the people who took drugs in the 1970s versus now consciously trying to open their mind to higher planes of awareness, or did they just want a good buzz and were forced to accept whatever trip they were given? in a way, they chose. maybe in a way, they didnt.

does a person who chooses augmentation know what they are getting into? or are they simply looking for the fountain of youth in a bottle, the promise of something "more", a superior level that might have devastating and unintended consequences?

will augmentation help to stimulate a deeper understanding or will it drive them closer to the edge? its a fine line, like just how much drugs can a person take before they overdose. each individual has a different threshhold.

i think that you are correct in assuming that following this path might set up dangerous precedents, since we cannot seem to even choose food wisely. we eat out of desire instead of need, we passively concede to injuring the environment to fulfill our habits.

I think consciousness has a huge amount of work to catch up to reality before we will be ready for the next level of awareness.

I suppose that's the problem at the crux of it. It's certainly a chicken and the egg situation when it comes to expanding consciousness and if history has taught us anything... there will be some that have more sinister intentions to use a technology than others...
