Oma Forest, a place to visit...

In our trip through the North of Spain there were several places we visited. Each of them was very different from the previous one, most of them spectacular places. One of them was the Forest of Oma. The forest of Oma is located in the province of Vizcaya, near Kortezubi. This beautiful forest has a uniqueness and is that you can find painted trees. A few decades ago the sculptor and painter Agustín Ibarrola painted one of the slopes of this forest to symbolize the union between the human being and nature.

The paintings of this slope are sigular, at first you can see trees painted without any logic, but if you look for the perfect angle you will notice that each group of trees create different geometries and drawings.

To reach the forest you have to walk a section, there are two routes that can be done. We toured one that was around 3km walking from the parking where you can leave the car. The parking is called "Parking Lezika-Basondo", when you leave the car there you have two route options, go on a private urbanization road (only private cars can enter the urbanization) or go by a forest road that goes directly into the forest (we went through this).

For this route it takes around 40 minutes to get there, it is not difficult to find the place since it is well signposted, the last section of this route is to go down a ladder there. An anecdote that we like to tell is that two dogs appeared up there and we did not know where they came from, they were very affectionate and they escorted us all the way. To return to the parking we made the way through the private urbanization, these 3 kilometers back followed us Juan (so we called one of the dogs that followed us).
