SCULPTURE IN HINOR TO THE VIRGIN OF PEACE - VENEZUELA

Between immense mountains, on the banks of the Castán River and with the imposing Monument to peace, located in the Peña de la Virgen.

The Monument to the Virgin of Peace It is a colossal commemorative sculpture of the Virgin Mary, made entirely in concrete, raised 11 km southwest of the city of Trujillo, in Venezuela. At 46.72 meters high, 16 meters wide, 18 meters deep at the base and some 1200 tons, it is the tallest living sculpture in the Americas, it is taller than the Statue of Liberty in New York and the United States. statue of the Christ the Redeemer of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. It is also the creation dedicated to the highest Virgin Mary in the world.

The monument is also located at an altitude of 1,600 meters above sea level, in the so-called Peña de la Virgen, where the virgin was cut in the year 1570, so that at the height of the work itself, together with that of its enclave of Mountains and tropical vegetation, provide a spectacular view of the region.
It was inaugurated on December 21, 1983 by the then president of Venezuela Luis Herrera Campins, work designed by the sculptor Manuel de la Fuente (Cádiz, Spain 1932- Mérida, Venezuela 2010).

It consists of five viewpoints, from where you can see, on a clear day, almost the entire Trujillo State, part of the Sierra Nevada de Mérida and the South Coast of Lake Maracaibo. You can visit it every day of the year, there is an excellent climate, places to eat, typical dishes and hotels, stay near the monument, when you reach your destination, do not forget your car and walk unforgettable.

Upon returning you can visit its church, since Trujillo is a small and picturesque state. There is no entrance fee and you have a park for the children too. You can take some great pictures from the top you see the whole city.
