Southern Blue Ringed Octopus
Firstly, this isn't the best photo of a Southern Blue Ringed Octopus but it was the first time I've ever seen them diving (if you look closely there is a lot of small shrimp which were attracted to my diving light).
On a cold winter night on the weekend whilst most people are snugged up in a warm bed, I was in the ocean on a night dive in Sydney harbour. Along with photographing and seeing the Southern Blue Ringed Octopus for the first time I was lucky enough to see a Pyjama Squid and Rose Petal Bubble Snail for the every first night, so it was worth the very cold water. (Photos to come in the following days)
The Southern Blue Ringed Octopus is among the most venomous sea creatures in the world and a bite is fatal to humans. Luckily they're fairly shy and only tend to bite if they're picked up.

Whoa! I don't know if would want to meet one in the middle of the night. Or day either
Hahaha, just don't touch it!
I'm afraid i might step on it or have one get tossed in my face by a wave!
Great picture. We found the blue ringed octopus in Sulawesi, Lembeh Straiht. Muck diving.
I'd love to dive Lembeh one day, so many critters!
What a stunning little creature. Good work surviving the encounter.. ;)
Thank you! Hahaha
