Moraine Lake and the Valley of the Ten Peaks

It was snowing when yesterday morning and the temperatures dropped to -6 C (23F) overnight. So it seems that summer, despite officially having a week to go, is over. I have been lucky enough to get some extended adventures in over the summer including Maligne Lake, Lake O’Hara, Gimli Ridge, Iceline Trail, Tonquin Valley, and Mt Assiniboine. So the backlog of photos to edit gets longer; but that’s a nice problem to have. I am looking forward now to some spectacular autumn colours followed by the sublime quiet and solitude that comes with winter in the North.

Between hiking the Tonquin Valley loop and travelling down to Mt Assiniboine we managed to finally stop in for sunrise at Moraine Lake and the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Those that know me know how much I like crowded places, but this is one spot where the crowds are actually worth it. Moraine Lake sits at an elevation of 1,885 m (6,183 ft) in Banff National Park. The iconic colour of the lake is due to light scattering from fine particles of glacial rock flour.

I see I have cracked the 2000 follower mark on the Steem blockchain, which despite the weird flurry of spam followers a month ago still seems like a nice milestone to hit.
