How much do you know about Belgrade?

Hello everyone!

Today I will give you a little introduction into the history of this beautiful city, as well as photos of my visit to Belgrade.

Belgrade is the main and also the largest city in Serbia, with almost 2 million inhabitants. Belgrade was founded by Celts in the 3rd century BC. After that it became the Roman settlement and got the name Singidunum. The first notable name Belgrade dates back to 878, and he remains, until today. In translation from the Serbian language Belgrade means "Whitetown". Considering that it covers more than 20% of the total territory of the Republic of Serbia, Belgrade works as a small state in Republic of Serbia.

What makes it interesting for tourists?

First of all, this city lies at the mouth of two rivers, the Sava and the Dunav, which separate old Belgrade from the new, and not only that, but give it some specific beauty, the city exudes with some positive energy. There are also many palaces, museums, the Avala Tower, Gardos Tower, and the most famous fortress Kalemegdan, which was built in the beginning of the 1st century.

I will show you in my text 3. locations which I visited, which were the most interesting to me, as a citizen of the city of Belgrade, and I would certainly recommend to you. Below you can see the first location - Ada Huja.

Ada Huja is the peninsula on the Dunav river - it was an island before, and represents the industrial zone of the city, but because of its beauty, it represents a commercial area, on which envisages the construction of modern residential complexes, with plenty of green areas, tennis and football fields and many other complexes. Ada Huja always reminded me on Long Island in New York, and that's why this location is special for me.

The second location is the Ada bridge.

I've always been attracted by bridges due to the engineering solution itself, as well as beauty and dimensions, and it was always the location I was looking for wherever I traveled. Belgrade has 10 bridges, of which the most interesting bridge to me is Ada bridge, which is also the latest bridge. The length is 964 meters, and it consists of 80 shutters that maintain the stability of the bridge, since the whole structure carries only one main pillar. It was put into operation in early January 2012. The construction of this bridge lasted for 4 years and cost more than 160 million euros, and this bridge represents a great architectural solution for me.

And the last location I visited yesterday was the Gardos Tower.

Gardos Tower  is one of the four Millennium Towers built by the Hungarian authorities on all four sides of the world in the farthest cities of the empire as part of the celebration for thousands of years since the settling of Hungarians to Pannonia. It is located in Zemun, Belgrade, at an altitude of 105 meters , It offers fantastic panoramic view of the whole city, besides it is of great historical significance for Belgrade and a real tourist attraction. This tower was built in 1896. on the foundations of the ancient fortress Taurunum from the 9th century and it is 36 meters high.

In the attachment you can see all three locations mapped. I hope that you will like the photos, and that you may visit Belgrade one day. All suggestions are welcome! :)
